This news item is simply called News because it really is very important NEWS.  As far as I can tell LM Studio, which I've just installed tonight, has a brand new feature.  What this very understated feature does is give you access to local AI on your mobile phone.  Let me repeat and reiterate how important this news is with a list:

  • The death of long setups and configuration.  A point-and-click remote access setup in under five minutes, including a free phone app!
  • Privacy
  • Security
  • Speed
  • Potentially no more monthly subscriptions.  I say potentially because I hope to return to discuss running massive, frontier models locally.  I don't know if that's entirely possible yet, if not you'll honestly still require a cloud subscription.

I haven't even mentioned the miracle that is local AI, I'm just talking about the simplicity of accessing it remotely which is a really big thing in of itself.  Is this AI for the masses?  Yeaah!

I'm several articles behind but I wanted to put this up tonight to show you where I've got to with screenshots of my phone to prove it's possible and just because it was so unbelievably easy.  Yes I was compelled to share this news immediately.  Literally anyone with a PC with local AI installed can access it from their phone.  The screenshots speak for themselves.

I'm currently catching up with the backlog of articles so that the documented status of the T5810 matches what it's doing now in the following screenshots:

The last screenshot is after switching out to another model and testing that it'd worked, because I felt that the user interface was a little confusing at first.
